“I’m Tom Coughlin, the CEO of The Merchant Way. I started The Merchant Way after working at a processing company early in my career. I saw that the company I was working for and other companies were charging exorbitant fees and cheating small business owners out of earnings. As I learned more about the business, I decided there had to be another way. I had to do something. That’s when I started The Merchant Way in March of 2020.

We are a no extra fees, no nonsense, completely transparent company with a team of great support agents.

Opening during COVID-19 wasn’t easy, but we saw so many businesses having tough times, that it motivated us to do more and keep lowering our fees more. That’s why we do business three ways:

Cash Discount

  • Cash Discount Processing lets you recoup processing costs by offering a cash discount to customers. On each transaction, the customer will be aware that paying cash is cheaper than card, and when they pay with a card they’ll understand that there will be a 3.9% fee attached to the payment. This way your processing fees at the end of each month are not paid by your profits. Instead, you are putting money aside each month using this program.

  • Zero. With cash discount, you offer a discount price for paying with cash and then charge a fee for using a card. Our technology lets you recoup your fees and pay your bills.

Traditional

  • Traditional processing allows you to pay a flat fee for credit card processing. No matter the card used, you will pay an average cost per credit card with an effective rate between 2.6% to 3.2%. If your businesses processes larger volumes you will qualify for a lower rate.

  • 3.20% for a small business processing an average ticket of $20 or less.

    2.80% to 3.00% for small businesses processing an average ticket of $20 to $200.

    Less than 2.80% for a small business with an average ticket size of $200 or more.

Whether you choose Cash Discount or Traditional Processing, while this promotion lasts, we will enroll you in our profit share program. It’s processing as normal, but at the end of each month you will receive a check from us with any surplus processing income. It’s simple, let’s get you some money back from your processing.

  • We do not charge additional fees. We charge only baseline fees that we must charge for compliance, which includes a $3.99 / month compliance fee.

  • Yes, our systems allow you to accept all types of credit cards, CHIP cards, and contactless payments. These include Samsung, Apple Pay, Google Pay and more.

  • There is month-to-month processing with no extended contract.

  • We pride ourselves with supporting your growth. If you do not need a credit card reader, you can simply ship it back to us, and we’ll remove the processing from that device. Visa versa, if you need to add a reader, we will ship you a new programmed device within 48 hours.
